One of my favorite settings in the Kingdom of Cheshire. I originally created it for my D&D group. I wanted to create a place of horror and rebirth, the Forest of Souls was what came from it. Take a once beautifully enchanted forest, and corrupt it thoroughly. Even the ground was corrupted. Anything that died in the forest returned as a cruel mockery of its former existence. The first time I ran it, I believed I killed about half the group. The second time I ran it (upgraded for maximum horror and carnage) it was wonderfully brutal. One of my favorite moments was when the group made camp for the night, during the second watch, the scout (1/2 drow Ranger 3/Rogue 3) was himself ambushed by one of the protectors of the forest a corrupted unicorn. He knew nothing about being stalked until a foot and a half of twisted horn exploded from his chest (having entered from his back). Fortunately his death throes woke the rest of the party up. LOL…that was awesome!!!
Anyway here is the background for the Forest, most of which the players never really got to know…but such is the nature of DM’ing: creating a fully fleshed world, that the players only get a glimpse of.

Maximum horror and carnage? That was a awesome moment even if it was a character near ans dear to my heart that got the horn. Almost don’t want to read the background to take away the mystery of the place for me.
Well since you said almost, I imagine you’ll be reading it. Let me know what you think!
still deciding.
