The Gods of Duir’Aion (part 1)

The gods of Duir’Aion are a collection of powerful entities. For the most part they tend to behave like family. There are alliances and disagreements, but when something threatens the pantheon they all tend to work together.

Currently the status quo is under siege by the infernals of the Pit. Seven demon lords have ascended to divinity. How they discovered the secret of ascension is unknown, but prophecy holds if thirteen of the demon lords become gods, war will rage from one end of Creation to the other. The gods themselves are arranged in a strict hierarchy, organized by power. This ranges for Demigods at the bottom to Greater gods ruling over them all.

Demigods – At the bottom of the divine ladder, are the demigods. Some are the result of the gods (or their agents) dalliances with mortals. Others are mortals who were powerful enough to ascend to this status with a sponsor’s aid. Very rarely, a more powerful god is reduced to this level. Typically they have a small portfolio from which to draw on worshippers.

  • Chitz – The god of goblins, and not because he wanted to be. According to legend, Chitz was a goblin shaman of middling skill who had happened upon a battle between an K’latal, the demigod of forgotten knowledge and Draen Do’Gra. It was terrible battle, but in the end Draen bested his opponent. The legend claims that as the demigod lay dying, and the archmage took a moment to catch his breath, Chitz ran up to the corpse and plunged his dagger into K’latal’s eye, killing him. The demigod’s power then flowed into the goblin. The truth was that Draen was actually contemplating a way to dispatch the demigod without having to absorb his essence. Chitz thought he could claim some of the god’s power for his own. That spectacular act of greed was witnessed by his tribe. Impressed by his display, the goblins groveled in worship, becoming his first worshippers. The legend claims Draen fled in order to avoid being killed by the fledgling god’s new power, which all scholars agree to be highly doubtful. Shortly after establishing his own realm, and with nearly no idea what he was doing, Chitz was attacked by Neissithaar, the god of Knowledge, who ripped from him the portfolio of secrets, leaving him with the domains of greed and goblins. Ironically, no god or mortal has since challenged Chitz, giving him a sense of security, and resentment towards his fellow deities.
  • Inokk – Once a mighty and cunning warrior, he dared challenge the former god of strength and bested him in battle, taking his place. Inokk is worshipped by minotaurs, ogres, and giants, each of which believe he was once a mortal member of that race. He does favor the minotaurs over all races though, lending credence to the horned warriors’ version of the story. He appears as a blood red minotaur (most often), with oversized horns (in any form), bearing an axe made of bone. Legend has it that was made from the corpse of the last god of strength. As the god of strength, he is always being challenged, a thrill he relishes, even as he looks at his superior, Torgash, the god of war, for a weakness he can exploit. As his worship grows, it remains to be seen if Inokk will become a lesser god on his own, or with the death of a rival.
