Duir’Aion, the world of my creation is a great source of pride for me. I have had the pleasure of fleshing it out for decades. For the longest time, I just used it for background in my D&D games. It occurred to me to write and published them, only recently. After an attempt to publish a short story/novella, I had given up on writing for a living. Ahh, the voices though, wouldn’t let it die. I tried to placate them by just fleshing them out on paper for a while. It wasn’t enough. They wanted to live beyond the confines of my cloud drive.
I like many was inspired by several authors. Tolkien of course began my love of fantasy, but Weiss and Hickman cemented it with their Dragonlance series. As a matter of fact, I read every single Dragonlance novel and anthology available circa 2002 in a single summer. By the end of the summer I wanted to write for a living. Other authors that inspired me were R.A. Salvatore, Michael Moorcock, Alan Moore, and Marion Zimmer Bradley. I actually received a rejection letter from Bradley for a story I wanted to submit to Sword and Sorceress.
I’m not trying to reinvent the wheel. I am telling a unique story of the world I created though. Yes there are elves in Duir’Aion, from the prideful sky elves, to the cannibalistic shadow elves, and the nightmarish rune elves. None of those terms (maybe shadow elves) will be familiar, and trust me, each race is individually unique.
The tales I am telling right now are under the subtitle A Darkness Rising. I wanted a world where big bads exist. And champions exist to fight them. And through it all something worse stirs beneath them. If the “Darkness Rises” it will likely be the end of Duir’Aion. I use the word if because as of this writing I don’t know if the Darkness will rise. I have many stories to tell before it does. If it does. I also have many stories to tell after it does. If it does. I’m not a plotter. More of a plantser. We shall see where the stories take me.
So come along with me and witness the adventures of a flamboyant minotaur bard, a young half-dragon, a nightmare forest, powerful archmages, and bickering gods. Let’s not forget the dragons, both mortal and divine. And demons lurking in every shadow. Strife is everywhere. Betrayal lurks around every corner. And in the end, nothing may survive.
