Book 1 – The Wailing Tower
The cast: Here are some of the heroes of the series, paladins Valin and Marcus, and swordswoman Shi’an. Next post will have more of the heroes, and a peek at the main villain! Stay tuned!
Valin Stormblade – Veteran of the Demon Gate Wars (1299-1301CR). Age 37, salt and pepper hair that he keeps cut short with a widow’s peak, as is the style among the paladins and knights of the Temple of the Blazing Truth. He sports a beard that he keeps closely shaved, also salt and peppered. Handsome, his body is in excellent physical condition, though covered in scars from countless battles. He stands about 6’1, weighing approximately 190lbs. He wears a woman’s wedding band on his left pinky finger, and stares at it often (twisting it when deep in thought). In combat Valin is the calm inside the storm. He is patient even, while running through scenarios in his mind’s eye. Valin seems obsessed with combat at times, training like clockwork at dawn. He appears to be a man with little to no fear. What drives him, may be his ultimate weakness.
Marcus Steelheart – former squire of his idol Valin, Marcus has become a noble paladin, following in the former’s footsteps. Standing about 6’, and weighing 185 lbs. this handsome youth of 24 years of age, has his hair cut short with a widow’s peak. This paladin of the Temple of the Blazing Truth is force to be reckoned with on the battlefield. Marcus does not quite take the training as serious as Valin would like, still lapsing into the habits of a single, handsome young man. Marcus seeks glory, and believes that the only way he will truly get Valin’s approval is to do something grand. As such, he tends to be impatient in battle, reckless even. For Marcus, the greater the risk, the greater the glory, which he believes will let him finally step out of his hero’s shadow. The prize he seeks may be the greatest risk of all.
Shi’an Yu – The only daughter of an aging warlord from the Jade Lands, Shi’an was treated as a male from birth. Trained in unarmed combat and in blades, Shi’an is as deadly as she is beautiful. Though she is barely 23 years of age Shi’an is also very wise. Long raven tresses make her bright green eyes nearly shine on her face. Leaving her father’s lands to seek her path in the world, she joins in the quest to rid Cheshire of the demon’s plaguing that land. Within the band, Shi’an finds something of a family, which she didn’t get growing up. She also may find something more, and that troubles her.
